Tony Chen, Senior Manager, Business Development

Tony's connection with renewable energy started with his position as Chief Financial Officer of Hyphase Energy, a company developing a highly efficient hydrogen fuel cell technology. In addition to his experience at Hyphase, Tony brings valuable expertise from his career in information technology to his role as Senior Manager for Business Development at Cool Earth Solar.

His background includes business development and strategic marketing roles at firms such as Sun Microsystems, Soltima, OpenConnect Systems, USA eConnect, and Asiasoft Systems (purchased by Top Image Systems in 2008). Tony embraced the entrepreneurial experience early in his career when he founded Asiasoft Systems, which provided complete document management systems and customized workflow design. Tony served as the Director of Business Development at Soltima, a Nokia-funded startup focused on building and monetizing user content profiles for wireless and internet users. At OpenConnect Systems, Tony created a regional value-added resellers channel that spanned nine countries while managing the Greater China and South East Asian regions.

He earned his Masters of Business Administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California Berkeley, and his Bachelors of Science from Carnegie Mellon University in applied mathematics with a concentration in operations research.

Tony is a member of the Berkeley Energy Resources Collaborative and volunteers with the nonprofit Grid Alternatives, installing solar panels on low-income housing.
