Tom comes to Cool Earth Solar after two decades of engineering in the consumer electronic arena. A generalist in analog, digital, and system design, he's equally comfortable navigating through hardware and software, designing products, and conducting research. Tom is drawn to Cool Earth's vision of supplying renewable energy for the world, and believes that cultural understanding and cooperation are vital to the ultimate "greening of the world."
Before joining Cool Earth, Tom was a senior electrical engineer for Electro Scientific Industries (ESI), bringing his engineering expertise to the manufacture of parts for consumer goods such as cell phones, laptops, personal music players, and small cameras. Highlights included contributing to embedded software and firmware for a platform for demonstrating laser direct ablation processes on high-density interconnects for the mobile phone market, and developing numerically controlled toolpaths to represent arbitrary micromachining patterns.
His past includes senior-level positions with RadiSys—a manufacturer of embedded Intel architecture PC products for medical, gaming, industrial automation and other commercial markets—as well as Sentrol (now part of GE Security), and Photon Kinetics. He received his MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering and his BS in Electrical Engineering from Portland State University.
A senior IEEE member, Tom is committed to commuting by bicycle "100 percent of the time" and continues to extend his understanding of other cultures through his travels.
