Kurt Ottaway, Principal Software Engineer

A software engineer who "prefers to develop embedded software on a PC first," Kurt brings in-depth experience in real-time operating systems, wireless mesh networking, and device-driver development to the Cool Earth team.

Kurt's background includes several years with Dust Networks, Inc. As a senior field application engineer at Dust, he designed and implemented product development kits, provided extensive technical support to customers, and helped develop Dust's low-power manager product. He has also been a senior software engineer at Chelsio Communications, where he developed low-level device drivers and was responsible for all new hardware bring-up, and at Spyglass/OpenTV, where he worked with a variety of embedded system platforms and wrote drivers of many kinds.

Kurt earned his BS in Computer Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. To help reduce his overall energy consumption, he heats his home with a pellet stove.
